CA Governor Signs Map-Extension Bill, Making it Now the Law
July 15th, 2008
Governor Schwarzenegger today signed SB 1185 (Lowenthal), the CBIA-sponsored legislation that extends expiring subdivision maps for one year. Because of the special urgency provisions in the bill, it became law the moment the Governor signed it – just after 5:00 p.m. today. That means all maps set to expire at midnight tonight, July 15, or later get an automatic one-year extension. In addition, SB 1185 gives local governments the discretion to extend the maps another full year. Knowing the importance of getting the measure enacted as soon as possible, the Governor’s office teamed with bill author Senator Lowenthal to move the bill quickly through the formal enrollment process and to the Governors desk this afternoon. CBIA in Sacramento thanks all members who weighed in at various times during the bills four-month journey through the Legislature and the Governors office to help make this priority of the homebuilding industry a priority at the state Capitol – particularly those who called today. More details on SB 1185 will be forthcoming in next week’s edition of the Monday Morning Report
